Learn how to use MPC-PGM

Overview

MPC-PGM is a desktop application for creating MPC1000-compatible program files (.PGM) from audio samples. It allows you to slice audio files, assign them to pads, and export directly to your MPC1000.

Waveform Panel

The waveform panel displays the currently loaded audio file and allows you to add slice markers.

Controls

  • Load Sample: Click "Load" or drag a WAV file onto the waveform
  • Add Marker: Double-click on the waveform to add a slice marker
  • Move Marker: Drag markers left/right to adjust position
  • Delete Marker: Right-click on a marker to remove it
  • Zoom: Use mouse wheel or zoom buttons to zoom in/out
  • Auto-Slice: Click "Auto Slice" for automatic transient detection

Pad Grid

The 4x4 pad grid represents the 16 pads of the MPC1000. Use the bank buttons (A-D) to switch between banks for a total of 64 pads.

Assigning Samples

  • Drag & Drop: Drag slices from the sample pool to pads
  • Auto-Assign: Click "Auto Assign" to map slices to pads in order
  • Clear Pad: Right-click a pad and select "Clear"
  • Preview: Click a pad to preview its assigned sample

Sample Pool

The sample pool shows all sliced samples ready to be assigned to pads.

  • Slice to Pool: After slicing in the waveform, click "Add to Pool"
  • Import Samples: Drag WAV files directly into the pool
  • Preview: Click any sample in the pool to preview
  • Delete: Right-click to remove from pool
